With Diana Gabaldon’s blessing (per Conny of Highland Saga – thanks!), June 1 has been named World Outlander Day.  (Of course, for us, every day is Outlander Day, but June 1, 1991, is the date Outlander was first published.)

To celebrate, we’re asking for increased social media efforts on both Facebook and Twitter.

On Facebook, we’re suggesting that Outlander fans change their profile pic to this for the day:

The image at the top of this post is for use on personal Facebook pages. We’re suggesting this cover photo for Facebook groups:

Remember that when you change your profile and your cover photo, they will show up in your friends’ news feeds.  Add a link to the trailers or a great photo of the cast to increase the effectiveness of your posts. Sharing the Outlander love – it’s what we do.  (Thanks, Tricia Leedom, for creating these images for us.)

On Twitter, in addition to changing profile and cover photos, we’re asking fans worldwide to tweet #WorldOutlanderDay heavily between 6 and 7 pm in every time zone Outlander fans live.  We’d love to see the hash-tag move around the globe.  Sparking local trends is key to our planned efforts leading into the premiere.  If you see a trend, PLEASE capture a screenshot and tweet it with the hash-tag so we can monitor the effectiveness of the effort and give Sony’s international marketing team another tool to use in bringing Outlander to more countries.  (Just remember that 100 tweets in an hour will get you sent to Twitter Jail.)

What do we tweet?  Thank yous to all of those who have brought Outlander into our lives and onto our TV screens is a good start. Thanking Diana in 140 characters is a real challenge (and 140,000 characters would never be enough), but please just tweet from your heart.  I’m planning on thanking @Outlander_Starz, @starz_channel, Ron Moore, Terry Moore, Maril Davis, Matt Roberts and the rest of the production team for the care they are taking with our beloved story. Then I’ll move on to the stars – thanking them is easy, right?

If you are in a country which has not acquired rights to Outlander a tweet or two to your networks asking for Outlander using #WorldOutlanderDay is totally appropriate.

In addition, general tweets with photos (feel free to use the photos tweeted by @OutlanderAmbass for examples and inspiration) and book quotes are great options.  Here is a great resource for quotes:  http://www.yogile.com/outlanderquoteart#31m  (Import the photos onto your computer and then attach them to a tweet with at least two words and #WorldOutlanderDay.)

Here are quotes which can be copied and pasted directly to Twitter. There is no need to add a handle:
